Anybody else think there should be an exhaust pipe exiting at about a 45° angle here?

I do agree and don’t care if you blame it on me. Side exit FTW!!!!!

The thing needs side pipes.

Yes, that’s where the exhaust tip should be. But the pipe should exit ahead of the door, and run along the rocker before reaching that point.

I might do that. I’ll probably play around with some spare pipe laying around tomorrow.

Definitely. I have mine exitin just in front of the doors. I have long tube headers and a lowered truck, so if the pipes are too long they’ll be really close to the ground.

I would guess the drone would get horribly annoying having the exhaust exit right behind the driver’s door, which is I think what I’m looking at... to each their own, but I like my hearing!

How much of that is bondo or primer

whats the tubing size of the exhaust pipes?........

I think I had going from 3" to 2.5" in that vid. Here’s a short vid when I had a 3" exhaust with flowmasters.

what series of flowmasters? 60s probably? where does the exhaust exit at on the acceleration vid?

just asking, because i have been working out how to make my 4x4 project into the “quiet one”........... my other truck, the 71 has long tube headers, 3 inch exhaust OLD glasspacks, and turndowns just ahead of the rear axle. with 3.73 rear gears, and a 26 inch tire, its turning close to 4k on the tach going down the road. its LOUD. luckily it has a massive cam in it, and it is happy at those rpms. i like my 3 inch exhaust, can tell the difference in power............ the 4x4 project, i’d like to get a bit quieter. i have a few ideas in the works, but its just ideas right now.

Kinja'd!!!

its gonna have a 400, and yep, 3 inch exhaust.

SO how did you like them flowmasters you had?

Kinja'd!!! DipodomysDeserti > Die-Trying

Kinja'd!!!1

I think they were 60s. They were on the truck when I got it. They went straight back and ended just before the rear axle (it’s a longbed). The exhaust also had cutouts installed. The flowmasters sounded fantastic. Your project sounds fun. I’m currently swapping a fresh transmission into mine.

YES....... i remember your transmission swap. any luck yet with the local yards? do you have a measurement to go by?

No, I’ve been pretty busy this week. Gonna get under there tomorrow and measure everything.

My shaft looks to be 68" from the middle of each universal joint. Can you see if you have any longer than that?

Kinja'd!!! Die-Trying > DipodomysDeserti
11/05/2016 at 20:23

Kinja'd!!!0

and that is the length of the old one right? and that would make it about 70 outside to outside........ if you could, when you get a chance, if its not too much trouble........... would you measure for the “new one”?

measure like this, if you could........

take the shaft that isnt long enough, and bury it on the splines into the transmission all the way. then slide the shaft back from full buried, so you can see about an inch and a quarter of the flat part of the shaft. hook the driveshaft cap, and measure to the face of the rearend yolk, where the ujoint sits. this will be a pretty close to your exact number.

sounds like somewhere around 76 inch, but would you check, please....... ill check the yard tomorrow when i have light, and ill check the BIG driveshaft pile on monday after work when i have some good light.(tomorrow i am HAD) there are brown recluse spiders in that general section of the yard, so i try to be careful.

i checked all the ones i could find. the longest once piece shaft was 71 inches outside to outside. everything that i could find that was longer (there were a few) were 2 piece shafts.......

Kinja'd!!!1

Thanks. Yeah it seems 72" is the longest most driveshaft places will go even for custom shafts. I might be able to get buy if I can find a 71" shaft. That would make up the difference in length from the 9-6" tailshaft. I might have to go with a 71" driveshaft and a longer slip yoke.

about the only shaft that MIGHT be just a little bit longer would be out of a suburban. i KNOW that the 71" shaft that i had, come out of a longbed gmc. and the other day, i had checked the wheelbase difference of the two. the wheelbase of the suburban is 2 inch longer........ if you go to a yard, i’d check those........
